  • Here's my opinion: Scottie didnt need to feed his family with that money, and he shouldnt have stopped playing just over that. BUT, although I wouldnt owe him a bigger contract, if Im management, I would re-negotiate because, first, from a business standpoint, a star who is angry and not playing isnt worth 2 million, but a star who is playing and is happy, is worth 30 mil. But also, he deserves that money, not that he was entitled to it, but he earned that. Fuck Krause though, he was an ass. Good at building a team, one of the best at seeing talent, sure, but the fact that he tried to get rid of Phil, and Scottie, he is a fucking moron with a massive ego. Phil was not an egotistical guy, but ultimately, as they said in the doc, GM is not a credit job. You dont get credit as a GM. You get credit as a player, and as a coach.

  • Are we just forgetting that is was Phil Jackson that changed their whole offensive strategy? It was Phil that instituted the triangle which added much needed depth and flexibility to the team’s scoring ability. It was Phil that convinced Jordan to pass the ball. That’s why they started winning. Jordan is the GOAT player wise and Jackson is the GOAT coach wise. That should have been abundantly clear to Krause, like WTF?

  • A lot of this was kind of painful to watch. Jordan and Phil had already won 5 rings together and were going for a 6th when Krause decided to that it would be their last season. Jordan had firmly cemented himself as the GOAT by that point! Phil is the guy who actually made Jordan's greatness translate into rings by making him trust his teammates and implementing the triangle. None of 3 coaches before Phil had a system other than "get the ball to MJ and let him score" and it showed in the playoffs. Andrew acting like "we didn't know Phil was a great coach back then" or that we didn't know Jordan was the GOAT was just a dumb comment. The owner should've just fired Krause instead of letting him ruin the team!

  • LOL. These dudes watched 2 episodes of a doc heavily influenced and green lit by the man him self Michael and all of a sudden they are back tracking like "OmG I'm stupid for even thinking LeBron was close"... these are the type of dudes you do not want to get your sports knowledge from and anything remotely controversial. They could be convinced the earth is flat with the right documentary, I promise you.

  • I would compare Jerry Krause with someone who is born into a wealthy family. It is much easier to grow wealth if you already start with millions, you might make much more than anyone in your family did previously but 1. you wouldn’t have without your existing family wealth (in this instance, Jordan) and 2. if you eventually lose your wealth, you are no longer considered a smart investor (or in this case a smart general manager). At the end of the day, Jerry made a lot of calculated risks, but it’s much easier to make risks if you have something to fall back on whether it’s millions or the greatest basketball player of the time

    lucas tlucas t7 oy oldin
  • How can you miss the whole point of money in the first episode. THE OWNER N GM had a common interest of not paying everybody, J.krausse knowing he gave phil a shot was not gonna live with Phil Jackson making more money than him. • Is this the brilliant idiots? Because you said A LOT of stupid shit on this podcast. TV ratings were WAY bigger in the 90s than now. You can't compare that with today and just say: there are more people now and the ratings are still lower. The wristband story with MJ is nothing special. It's normal to exchange gear after the game in Europe. That has no real correlation with HOW great someone is. The only exception would be if numerous players of the opposing team would ask for gear. Your pippin argument was surface level af. Completely ignored the nuance of why and how it happened. Things like injuries were a bigger deal at the time. The league was physical, pippin has had issues before and so on. Love you guys, but that was hard to listen to

  • Being a GM is a thankless job in sports! The org, the players, and the coach will always be bigger. but through the test of time, a GM will be credited.

    Akielah WigginsAkielah Wiggins7 oy oldin
  • Andrew is a contrarian ...Jerry's (both) fucked up. You can't defend it. GM doesn't mean as much in basketball as it does in baseball or even football. Players in basketball (more than other sports) hold all the power. Players win rings in basketball. Coaches, in football, GMs in baseball. If he wanted more credit he should've built a winner with the white sox.

If people can sustain 5 person families on 100,000, pippen can sustain 12 people, wheelchairs or not, with 166000 per head. Plus sponsorships, signature shoe, the tens of millions he had already gotten from the past 7 years on the Bulls. Plus, this is back in the 90s, and he had already made about 100,000,000 dollars. Even if he had 50 mouths to feed, that would be more than enough

He didn't want to risk having a career ending injury and not being able to provide for him huge family so he signed a long term deal to secure that $$.
